Bio

My career began back in 1996 when Raven Software (here in good old Madison Wisconsin), brought me on as an intern as they were finishing up work on Necrodome.  A few months later I was hired full time and, over the next three years, I had the pleasure of learning the ropes on titles like Heretic II, Soldier of Fortune, Hexen II, MageSlayer and Take No Prisoners.  My job responsibilities were varied. I worked as a concept artist, modeler (back when games were still sprite-based) and finally, a full time animator.  Animation soon became the direction I would take my career.

In the spring of 1999, I took a position as an animator at Human Head Studios to work on the 3rd person melee action game Rune for the PC.  After months of creature and ambient life animations, I was given the responsibility of animating Ragnar, the main character of Rune.  This, to date, has been one of the most difficult and rewarding experiences of my professional career.  After Rune shipped, I worked as the Art Director for Rune PS2 overseeing most of the PS2-specific content and art requirements.  My final project at Human Head was Prey, where I served as the Lead Animator.

In 2006 I took a chance and, with a few partners, started the development studio Big Rooster.  It was a difficult road and, after a few years, the partners and I decided to go our separate ways.  Although the time was short, it was an incredible learning experience as we worked in conjunction with companies like Gearbox Software, Pi Studios, Bioware Austin and Blockade Entertainment.

I the spring of 2009 I accepted a teaching position at MATC (Madison Area Technical College) here in Madison where I have the honor of teaching in the Animation and Concept Development department.  It has been exciting to immersing myself in an environment of creativity and learning.   My passion is art, I love to look at it, I love to read about it and most importantly, I love to create it.  I’ve enjoyed sharing this passion with others, seeing the expression on a student’s face when “the light bulb turns on” and watching people connect the dots as they start to form their own identity.  Art has impacted my life in a way nothing else could, I hope that I can be as good of a teacher to my students as my teachers were to me.
